NEW GIRLFRIEND

Posted under Blog

He finally put in a home security system? Wow, that’s unbelievable, Daisy said. I kept telling him to do that for all these years. It’s about time. I suppose, she said, it was the burglary that finally made him wake up and smell the coffee? Probably, I said. Walt got his home burglarized in January. He had only been gone a little over an hour, on a Friday night; he’d gone to fill up the car and stop at a 7-11 to get some things, like his three six-packs for the weekend. When he got back, chairs were overturned, bookcases were scattered all over, and his personal computer and 24-inch screen TV were gone. Just like that. Walt told me he literally banged his head against the wall. He said he was bringing Sherri there Saturday night for the first time ever. Both he and Sherri, his new girlfriend, were excited and apprehensive about spending the night together in Walt’s duplex. Well, now of course the whole thing is postponed. Sherri apparently was willing to join him anyway, which was thoughtful, but Walt didn’t want to spoil the effect with an empty living room. So next Saturday night, they’re getting together at Sherri and Kathy’s much smaller apartment in the city. Kathy and Pat promised to stay in her bedroom. They had already made their plans; and Pat lives with his mother. Daisy said, so has he installed the new system? Hey, I don’t know, I said. I haven’t talked to him this week yet. You work next door to Sherri’s office, why don’t you ask her?
