Perhaps if I use a little bit of creativity, I can think of other ways I can convince my dad to let me go to see this stage show. So far—impossible. He already knows that it’s pretty raunchy and that there’s a lot of nudity and foul language in it. I suppose that’s sufficient for him to just lay down the law and prohibit me from going with my friend. I’ve got to think of something. Let me see. He always seems to be going through the paper and mumbling about all these event tickets. I don’t have any idea what he’s saying, but he told me one time that one of his friends is a promoter. I wonder if I could get to Dad through him? I wish I could remember the guy’s name. Maybe Mom knows who he is—and if I’m really lucky he’s connected with the producers of the musical. Maybe he can even give us a discount, especially if Dad gets stingy about putting up the money for it! There must be some way I can get through to him. I know Jim won’t be able to get through. One look at Jim and Dad gets all miserable; his face just dissolves into this perpetual frown. Jim’s mom doesn’t seem to care what he does as long as he doesn’t hurt her. I think I’ll talk to Mom before dinner and try to find out if she knows anything about this promoter dude. I hope she hasn’t heard anything about the stage show yet. If he told her about it…
